Waste Wise School

Fraser Primary School is proud to be a part of the Wastewise school program.  The following are some of the activities that we undertake to help reduce our impact on the environment.

We are now collecting and composting all food scraps produced by the school.  The food waste is collected each afternoon by the year 3/4 students and emptied into a compost bin to be later used in the school vegetable garden.

Scrap paper is recycled within the school.  If the paper has one blank side it is either fed back through the photocopier or used in classrooms.  Once both sides are filled the paper is placed in a collection bin to be picked up by a recycling company.  Hard plastics (drink bottles, containers) are placed in another collection bin to be recycled also.

Throughout the school energy savers have been used to control the use of electricity so that after hours lights automatically go off.

To reinforce the school’s commitment to the Wastewise program an article by Eco Ernie is written in our Fraser Focus (fortnightly newsletter).  The article contains tips, information and ideas about how to further reduce our impact on the planet.
