A Curriculum for the 21st Century

Fraser Primary's New Curriculum is organised into these fundamentals:

World Futures

Social Responsibility

Mind, Body and Identity

Communication, process and fundamentals are taught through the development of "Quests of Discovery". Through Quests, students display their understanding, knowledge and skills through performance on trandisciplinary activities that are intellectually demanding and are connected to the world beyond the classroom. Students participate in matrix activities that support differentiated learning for individuals and their needs. Assessment utilises rubrics giving full descriptions of what is expected and the skills required to be demonstrated to achieve a particular standard of achievement. Each quest includes a culminating celebratory activity, which involves an audience presentation.

Literacy
All staff are committed to making sure that every child has the best possible opportunity to achieve a standard of excellence in literacy before entering high school. Literacy is essential to all learning at Fraser Primary School. It is fundamental to communicating, learning and thinking and is taught in an integrated way across the curriculum and during guided and cooperative reading sessions. Numeracy
At Fraser Primary School, Mathematics Education enables students to develop competence in maths skills as well as an understanding of the processes. Ability groups ensure that the students are able to learn at a level appropriate to their developmental knowledge and understanding rather than age/grade level. Talented students, and those with special needs, are ideally accommodated in this way to enhance their true potential. All groupings are flexible, enabling movement to meet individual needs at any given time. Click here to view our Numeracy Plan

Physical Education
Fraser Primary School has an impressive record of success in many sporting arenas. We regularly access visiting sports programs and coaches who provide expert tuition in skills development and game playing. Fraser students participate in the three system sporting events such as track and field , swimming and cross country and participate in school and district team sports such as soccer, netball, rugby union, hockey etc.

Assessment and Reporting
A variety of assessment methods and procedures are used to better understand student's processes in thinking and leaning. Such methods include rubrics, portfolios, performance based activities, running records, checklists, anecdotal records and observations. Evaluation is an essential part of the ongoing daily experiences in the classroom. Students assume greater responsibility for their learning by reporting through three way conferences with their teachers and parents as well as presenting Quest Celebrations and Learning Journeys.
