Fraser Primary School was built because interested citizens, with a belief in the neighbourhood school concept, organised themselves in 1976 into a group known as the Fraser Action Committee for Education. This group succeeded in convincing the Schools Authority and the government of the day that a school was required in the suburb.

In February, 1979, the first School Board was elected and determined policies and programs for the newly established school. The P&C Association was also formed and played a major role in raising funds for equipment and resources.

The school was officially opened by Mr Andrew Fraser and Mrs Carla Knight during a ceremony on the 6th of July 1979 and to this day still maintains a strong community focus.
